Welcome to our practice! My name is Carmion Pope, AP, DOM, Dipl. AC. I am a nationally and state-certified Doctor of Chinese medicine, as well as an alternative family practice physician. I have been practicing in South Florida for 11 years.
I graduated from Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine (ATOM), with two master’s degrees in Chinese medicine and a bachelor’s degree in Western medicine. Prior to that, I earned my undergraduate from Webber International University, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an associate degree in marketing.
Previously, I worked independently for six years with Dr. Robert Dudley and Dr. Christine Shim, in the Medical Specialists of the Palm Beaches (MSPB) group. In addition to my Boynton Beach practice, I worked for three years in Broward County, in the Neurology Department of Sunrise Medical Group. While there, I headed their alternative program’s three offices. I then left that practice and the one in Boynton to open my own alternative clinic.
I have been nationally interviewed on TV as an expert on the effectiveness of acupuncture on lower back pain. And, I was honored to receive the 2015 Patients Choice Awards for “Best Boynton Beach Acupuncturist.
My Personal Journey
But why did I focus on career in acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, in general? Well, my story started in high school and college. I played softball and volleyball, and as a result, I developed knee, ankle and back injuries.
Unfortunately, these injuries never got better. Over time, they worsened to the point where I had chronic sciatica down my right leg. Through the seven years I suffered with the pain, I had tried everything, from physical therapy to injections. I was told I would never be completely rid of the pain, but still, I kept on believing.
But then, I decided to try acupuncture. The first time, I had more relief than anything else I had tried. By the time I was done with the series of treatments, I was pain-free. And I live pain-free today because of acupuncture and supplements.
In regard to my practice, I have a special interest in pain management and neurology. The main treatment modalities that I use are: acupuncture, acupressure, herbs, supplements, homeopathic remedies and physical therapy.
Our practice works with all patients, including adults, the elderly, children, infants and pregnant women. As such, we have many modalities to accommodate all patients. I take pride in working with my patients, and I believe that their input is an important component in their treatment plans. Among the disorders I work on are:
At our practice, we bill many insurance companies. Primarily, we accept PPOs, as an out-of-network provider. I can perform and bill for acupuncture, physical therapy and manual therapy. I take both personal injury protection (PIP) and workers’ compensation cases. For your convenience, I have a billing company that will verify your eligibility for services.
